Becoming Mahamudra

About our group

Mahamudra meditation & study · Zoom · Since March 2021

Prasadavajri started our Zoom-based mahamudra group in March 2021, centred around introducing, experiencing and developing mahamudra meditation and ritual conducive to practising the path of Mahamudra towards enlightenment.

Since starting, the sessions settled quickly into regular bi-weekly meditation and study sessions, with occasional week-long retreats. Hardly a session has been missed to date.

All meditation sessions have been published for the benefit of members of the Triratna Order Sangha, both here on this website and in a OneDrive folder. Our weekly recorded study sessions, following principal Mahamudra texts, are published alongside. We have been slow and thorough.

The texts we have studied together:

Two years of meditation and study centred on Mahamudra: The Ocean of True Meaning by Karmapa Wangchug Dorje.

April to December 2023 — Creation and Completion: Essential Points of Tantric Meditation by Jamgön Kongtrul, Khenchen Thrangu, and Sarah Harding. One of the most pithy and profound texts of immediate applicability encountered in our study and practice of Buddhism.

From May 2024 — a more condensed Geography of Mahamudra, moving from early samatha through the mulayogas to creation and completion stages: sixteen weeks of talks, Q&A and meditation.

Currently — The Ninth Karmapa's Ocean of Definitive Meaning by Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche.

Appreciation and gratitude are felt towards Dh. Prasadavajri for heading up and leading the group. She has studied and practised mahamudra for some twenty years, and this depth lends weight and confidence to the group's practice. She has led with a strong emphasis on developing direct experience, guiding us through the profound teachings with all attention on method and direct experience, patiently repeating sections wherever needed to establish real effect.

Her efforts are bearing fruit. All members of the group have experienced a profound shift in their practice and experience of Buddhism — enabling the immediate group, the chapter, and many in the wider audience using the OneDrive recordings to practise and experience mahamudra directly. Reflecting on the first years of practice, we see a deeply profound enriching of our Going for Refuge, and feel deep gratitude to Prasadavajri for her decision to share her experience in this way.

Recorded sessions for the first three years are available under Recorded Sessions. To follow the sessions it is best to be part of the weekly study group or the wider group of practitioners in the Order using the OneDrive recordings. To request access through this website, send an email to Prasadavajri introducing yourself — she can provide access to the appropriate sections of the archive.
